Unicorns are magical, welcomed creatures. If they were real, it would be delightful to see one. How can you bring out the unicorn in your blog. How can you delight your readers and stand out from all the other horses?
Be true to your uniqueness
Take a look at yourself with a magnifying glass. You might just do what you do without much thought because… well, it’s just you. Look at yourself from your ideal readers’ view. What exactly are they intrigued with about you? You might even ask a few regular commenters or a FB group to get an outside opinion. Once you know, expand upon those attributes and multiply their effect.
One of the inherent beauties of a blog is that as readers we get to experience who you are and what is important to you. Don’t deny your readers what only you can offer by watering yourself down. Be bold. Be brave. Be the most authentic you!
What is your “WHY”
What you stand for is part of your branding. Make it known in a big way. Sometimes that can be scary because you want to be liked by many and it’s hard to know if you will turn off some of your readers if you are really clear.
It’s important for you personally to be as defined as possible. Have an opinion or a preference and speak it with boldness. This is simply the “Why” of your business. Why do you do what you do and who are you wanting to serve?
When you pull in people because you are clear and express that message consistently, your readers will be thrilled to visit your blog. And losing readers can have an upside too, believe it or not. When you aren’t trying to control your readership with being readable by all, you get to experience the freedom of your own authenticity. It’s scary! And we can all fall into the trap of not wanting to scare off hard earned readers. But in the end, you will be a happier blogger blogging about what you truly care about and using the voice that is familiar and makes up the real you.
Give it Away
The internet is full of freebies. Free downloads and information are expected by the armfuls. You have a select group of people who are interested in what you have to say so throw a few freebies out there of your own.
- Send surprise freebies, downloads, coupons, discount codes.
- Take is a step further and give something away to top influencers.
- If you already sell a product, what value added bonus can you offer?
- Give something away in exchange for social media interactions
- Consider a donation of a percentage of your revenue to a non profit that you can stand behind.
Ask for your readers opinions
Get feedback from your ideal readers about what they want you to post about. It’s the best way to get fresh content ideas. You can also ask your readers what problems they have that they want solved that you might be able to help with.
Are you an organizer? Ask your readers what their most troubled area is and then post the answer on Facebook or create a blog post about it.
Do you have a recipe blog? What foods do your readers have a hard time getting right? Or maybe, what foods are getting boring to them and they would like a new twist on a recipe?
Is fashion and style what your blog is all about? Ask your readers what shoe they are hoping to find for the fall (ankle booties for skinny jeans, hint, hint;) and then scour the internet for that item and post your best finds.
One more! Mommy blogger. If your target market is mother’s of babies and toddlers (very difficult time), ask your readers what the hardest time of the day is for them and then create a post about possible ways to deal with that time in a more effective way. Or gather your readers ideas and make a compilation of their responses… everyone likes to see their name in print. And guess what? They will share if with their friends if they have been featured.
